MODEL RELEASED. Cancer research. Male researcher pipetting DNA samples from neuroblastoma cancer cells into electrophoresis gel for genetic sequencing. The samples consist of labelled pieces of tumour DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). During electrophoresis, the fragments are separated by an electric current, producing bands representing the genetic code. This analysis is for the MYCN gene. Multiple copies of the gene are normally found in neuroblastomas, and also often indicate a highly malignant cancer. Photographed in the Cancer Research Unit at Newcastle University, England, the British referral centre for the analysis of genetic alterations in neuroblastomas.
