Breast tumour. Coloured mammogram (breast X-ray) of a calcified fibrous adenoma (fibroadenoma, purple) in a woman's breast (pink) seen from the side. An adenoma is a benign tumour of glandular tissue. Calcification refers to the depositing of calcium within the tissue. Such growths need to be checked for malignancy. If this abnormal growth turns cancerous (malignant) it will be termed an adenocarcinoma. Excessive or cancerous growths may require surgical removal, and cancers may require chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
