MODEL RELEASED. Pupil using separating funnel to extract a compound of interest from a solution. The solution containing the liquid to be extracted and an extraction solvent are added to the separating funnel, which is held by a clamp. The liquid and solvent are mixed together in the separating funnel and then allowed to separate into two layers. The bottom layer (purple) is drained into a beaker. The top layer (clear) is then poured out of the top of the funnel.
