Jean Antoine Villemin (1827-1892), French physician. Villemin received military training and qualified as an army doctor. In 1863, he was appointed assistant professor of clinical medicine at the Val-de-Grace military medical school in Paris. Here, he carried out experiments on tuberculosis, inoculating animals with tuberculous material from human cases. He was able to prove that the disease was infectious.
