Dr. Peter Rigby, English biologist. Between 1976 & 1986 Rigby worked at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine. Here he lead the Cancer UK's first group using a recombiant DNA technique to study the ways that cancer-causing viruses transform normal cells into tumour cells. In 1986, he was made Head of Division for Eukaryotic Genetics at the Medical Research Council's National Institute, where he has worked on oncogenes (genetic material that can cause cancer when mutated). In 1999, Rigby also became the Chief Executive of the Institute of Cancer Research.
