Ralph Noyes, general secretary of the Centre for Crop Circle Studies (CCCS). Crop circles, or crop formations, are mysterious patterns of flattened plants in fields of wheat, barley and other crops. They started occurring frequently in the mid-1980s in south-west England. Their cause is unknown, but numerous explanations have been advanced ranging from the scientific (such as the plasma vortex" theory) to the unorthodox (they are created by extraterrestrial intelligences). The CCCS is an umbrella group that brings together crop formation investigators of all persuasions. The photograph was taken in August 1991 at Noyes' home in London."
