Prof. Hiroshi Kikuchi (right) and Dr Terence Meaden (left). Kikuchi is a Japanese mathematician and atmospheric physicist at Nihon University; Meaden is Britain's leading scientific investigator of crop formations. Kikuchi has specialised in electrical phenomena in the atmosphere - such as lightning & tornados - that are connected with electrohydronamics (EHD). The portrait was taken in August 1991, when Kikuchi visited England during his studies of crop formations. Kikuchi was investigating whether these mysterious patterns of flattened plants in fields of wheat, barley and other crops might be caused by a phenomenon related to EHD.
