MODEL RELEASED. Finding human remains. Dogs being trained to find a dead body. Such dogs are called cadaver or body dogs. These dogs are labradors, an easily trained breed of the domestic dog (Canis familiaris). Dogs have a powerful sense of smell that is used to detect the gases and other odours given off by a dead body. They will be trained in several areas of search, such as surface searches, buried bodies, and bodies in water. Training is usually started at a young age. The handlers will work with the dogs using synthetic scents or real body parts. The handlers will reward a find to reinforce the training. Photographed in Italy.
