Lava lamp on a tabletop. A lava lamp contains two immiscible liquids with different densities which do not blend together. When a light bulb at the base of the lamp is switched on, the more dense liquid near the base heats up. As it heats, this liquid expands, becomes less dense and rises. As it cools it becomes more dense and falls again. This process produces peculiar liquid patterns.
