Scanning electron micrograph of working velcro being pulled apart. A common fastener, velcro is a nylon material manufactured in two separate pieces, one with a hooked surface (right) & the other with a smooth surface made up of loops (left). The loops (left) are loosely woven strands in an otherwise tight weave. The hooks (right) are woven into the fabric & them cut. When the two surfaces are brought together they form a strong bond. Mag: X36 (10x8 size).
