Safety matches. Open box of wooden matches. These are called safety" matches because they cannot be lit except by being struck on the chemical strip on the box. Chemicals on the head of each match react specifically to those on the box, as a fire safety feature. Older matches contained a mixture of potassium chlorate and red phosphorus, and could be ignited with the heat of friction by striking the match on almost any hard surface."
