Polarised light micrograph of a section of a biaxially oriented, stretched, high-density polythene net. This fabric is machined from man- made polythene fibres. The colours in the fibres appear in polarised light and correspond to residual stresses in the plastic fibres. Magnification: x8 at 35mm, x16 at 6x7cm size.
