Prometea, the first cloned horse (Equus caballus). Prometea was the world's first cloned horse, and she was also the first clone to be carried to term by the nuclear donor. Her creator, Cesare Galli, took a skin cell from a mare called Stella Cometa and fused it with an empty horse egg. The resulting embryo was cultured for five days before being implanted into Stella Cometa's uterus. Prometea was born on 28 May 2003, and is an identical copy of her surrogate mother. Photographed in the grounds of the Laboratory of Reproductive Technology in Cremona, Italy.
