Indian balsam flowers (Impatiens glandulifera). This plant is also known as Himalayan balsam. A native of the Himalayas, it has spread rapidly in the UK since its introduction as a showy garden plant in 1839. Its efficient seed dispersal system allows it to colonise new sites with ease, and pollination is not a problem as bumble bees are attracted to the flowers. Photographed in August, in Hertfordshire, England.
