Pollen dispersal. Wind dispersal of pollen from the lesser pond sedge (Carex acutiformis). Each pollen grain contains a male gamete, which fertilises the ovules (eggs), initiating the formation of plant seeds. Pollen is a major cause of hay fever (allergic rhinitis and pollenosis).
