Flower pistil. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the pistil of a tricyrtis (Tricyrtis sp.) flower. The pistil is the female reproductive part of the flower. It can be divided into several carpels with a stigma at their tips. The stigma is where the pollen (male reproductive cells) land during pollination. The pollen can then fertilise the ovary at the base of the pistil. Magnification: x8 at 6x7cm size.
