Chacruna hallucinogenic plant. This plant (Psychotria viridis) is also known as amiruca panga by the native Quichua indians. It is hallucinogenic as it contains the psychoactive compound DMT (dimethyltryptamine). It is used by native shamans to produce the potent brew ayahuasca, which they use for medical and religious purposes. Photographed in the Jatun Sacha Reserve in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
