Greater celandine. Historical artwork of the greater celandine plant (Chelidonium majus). This medicinal herb, used in infusions for its narcotic and purgative effects, has an orange-coloured juice, commonly used to treat warts. The juice is a powerful irritant that strongly stains the hands. Its roots (lower right) are shown. From The Instructive Picture Book or Lessons from the Vegetable World, Charlotte Mary Yonge, 1857.
