Common monkshood. Coloured historical artwork of the medicinal plant common monkshood or aconite (Aconitum napellus) in flower. Although it is highly poisonous, the action of the plant on the nervous system has led to its use as a sedative or as a painkiller (analgesic). This artwork is from a German encyclopaedia called the Bilder-Atlas that was published in 1860.
