Aroid flower (family Araceae) growing in a cloud forest. Aroids are common in tropical forests. They produce tiny flowers which are aggregated into a dense spike known as a spadix (red). At the top of the spadix is a leaf-like spathe. Because their flowers tend to be insignificant, aroids are often powerfully perfumed with sweet or putrefying scents. Photographed in Mindo, Ecuador.
