Butterfly orchid flowers (Orchis papilionacea). Some systems classify this variant as subspecies heroica. Each flower has a large fan-shaped petal (pink lines on white). This is a specialised structure (the lip) that attracts pollinators and provides them with a landing platform. This orchid is found throughout the Mediterranean area.
