Orchid flower (Lycaste deppei). The flower has three large sepals (green with red spots), and an inner ring of petals surrounding the reproductive parts. Two of the petals are white, while one (the lip) is yellow. The lip attracts pollinators to the flower, and provides them with somewhere to land. This orchid is found in forests in Guatemala and Mexico. It can be epiphytic (growing on trees) or lithophytic (growing on rocks). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
