Orchid flowers (Coelogyne tomentosa, also known as C. massangeana). The brown-tipped petal seen on each flower is a specialised structure called a lip. It attracts pollinators and provides them with a landing platform. This is an epiphytic orchid (one that grows in trees). It is found in the mountains of Malaysia and Indonesia. This specimen is from Malaysia. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
