Orchid flowers (Appendicula calcarata). The orchid forms a small inflorescence (flower head, white), on which tiny flowers (yellow) are blooming. The Appendicula orchids, which all flower in a similar way, are tropical orchids distributed from India to the Pacific islands. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers. This specimen is from the Solomon Islands of the Pacific Ocean.
