It comprises rod-shaped cells, linked into filaments or strands, containing the photosynthetic pigment chlorophyll. This is a freshwater specimen. Filamentous algae occasionally form large mats and rafts on the surface of water. Some bacteria (pink) are seen on the surface of the alga.
