Powdery mildew on rhododendron (Rhododendron sp.) leaves. Powdery mildew affects various species of plants and is caused by a few closely related fungi. The fungus overwinters as mycelium in infected shoots and dormant buds. In the spring, infected shoots begin to grow, releasing spores which infect new parts of the plant.
