Candida albicans occurs on moist mucous membranes of the human body such as skin folds, mouth, upper respiratory and female genital tracts. It is usually harmless, but can become pathogenic in patients suffering malnutrition, diabetes, or undergoing antibiotic treatment. Candida albicans causes the infection known as candidiasis.
