Amanita virosa mushrooms. Three specimens of the Destroying Angel mushroom Amanita virosa. This mushroom is deadly if eaten. Pure white in appearance, the cap is sticky and bell-shaped. The white flesh has an unpleasant, sickly smell. Its taste is at first mild, then burning and highly poisonous. Amanita virosa is found growing in birch woods and mixed woods, often in clusters. Photographed in Hocking County, Ohio, USA.
