Its cell wall is green/blue; granular cell contents include scattered genetic material. This psychrophilic (cold-loving) bacterium is a food spoilage organism. First isolated from chilled sausage meat, it can also spoil other food stored at low temperatures in a refrigerator. It has been found in soil & cold waters, including those from Antarctica. It grows in temperatures as low as -2 degrees Celsius. Extremophile bacteria live in extreme conditions, such as low temperature. Magnification: x50,000 at 6x7cm size.
