Ethanol is widely used as a solvent in industry and in laboratories, but its main use is as an inebriating drug in a wide variety of alcoholic drinks. Taken in moderation, ethanol removes inhibitions and gives a sense of confidence. Larger doses lead to a lack of coordination, slurred speech and illness. Higher doses still can lead to unconsciousness and even death. It is addictive with prolonged heavy use.
