Vitamin B6. Polarised light micrograph of crystals of pyridoxine hydrochloride, also known as vitamin B6. This is one of the water-soluble B complex vitamins which, although chemically unrelated, perform similar functions in the body and are found in common dietary sources. Vitamin B6 is used by the body to form pyridoxal phosphate, a co-enzyme involved in the transamination of amino acids. Deficiency of vitamin B6 is rare, as most foods such as vegetables, milk, eggs and meat contain suitable amounts. Magnification: x20 at 5x7cm size. x10 at 35mm size.
