Surface tension: a razor blade appears to float on a volume of water. Surface tension effects at the water- air interface cause the surface to behave like a stretched, elastic membrane, which exerts an upwards force on the razor blade. The blade (which is more dense than water) may be considered as sitting in a depression formed in the surface.
