Kaleidoscope. View through a kaleidoscope, a common children's toy. The view is created by looking at fragments of glass or plastic through a tube. The tube contains two mirrors running along its length, joined along the tube axis and at an angle of 60 degrees. The direct view of the glass fragments is thus reflected by the mirrors to form an image with triangular (three- axis) symmetry. The name comes from three Greek roots; kalos (beautiful), eidos (form) and skopeo (to look at).
