The Mendenhall Glacier retreats back into the Juneau Icefield. Bare rock is smoothed out by the weight of the glacier. The most visited glacier in the world, the Mendenhall Glacier, is also a fast retreating one. If it were advancing as fast as it is retreating, then Juneau, Alaska, would be under ice in a matter of ten years. Mt. McGinnis sits in the background with waterfalls coming down avalanche shoots. Nugget Falls drains into Mendenhall Lake to the right of McGinnis.
