Deer, sheep, and shaman petroglyphs, in the Coso Mountains', Site Iny-7 in Big Petroglyph Canyon, one of the most spectacular concentrations of rock art in North America. These are thought to relate to shaman pursuing vision quests, seeking the help of spirits to make rain. The density of glyphs in particular places invites the writer's speculation that the perceived 'power' of a place was cumulative and enhanced by the generations of others who left their layered contributions.
