Pictographs in the Little Blair Valley, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California. This red painted panel is typical of southwestern California pictographs made by young Kumeyaay Indian girls in the course of their puberty ceremonies. The rattlesnake 'spirit helper' often appears in girl's art, hence the preponderance of zigzags and diamond-chain motifs.
