Abu al Hasan built a necropolis on the hill facing Rabat to honor Abu Yacub Yusuf, killed in combat at Algeciras. Defensive walls enclose the burial complex. The monumental gate is flanked by octagonal plan towers crowned by peculiar square tops, with stone muqarnas as connecting structures. 2009 photograph.
