Cannibalism between two Mexican spadefoot toad tadpoles, also known as New Mexico spadefoot. Spea multiplicata. Synonyms include Scaphiopus multiplicatus and Scaphiopus hammondi multiplicata. Two tadpole morphs of the same species and age from the same pond; the smaller, slower-growing morph is an omnivore, while the larger, faster-growing morph is an omnivore turned predator/cannibal. Captured in the Sonoran Desert near Robles Junction, Southeastern Arizona, USA. Photographed under controlled conditions
