In 1895 Roentgen discovered a new kind of radiant energy which he named x-rays. On December 22nd 1895 he produced the first human radiograph of his wife's hand. His paper \On a New Kind of Ray\" was published at the end of December in \"Proceedings of the Physical-Medical Society\" of the University of Wurzburg. His discovery caused immense excitement and reports of his findings were cabled to newspapers around the world. This x-ray(cathodograph) shows the skeleton of a bird with a twisted neck and broken leg. The picture was published in 1896, less than a year from the date of Roentgen's discovery. It was made by Herr Klingenberg in the laboratory of the Technical High School in Charlottenburg. this school was described in 1912 by an American visitor (Admiral Edwards) as superior to anything exisitng in America or Englan."
