Cosmas and Damian, Christian saints. A winged cherub is holding laurel wreaths over their heads. One of the saints is holding an apothecary's flask, and the other is holding a large book with bound covers. These twin saints were Christian healers from the Roman province of Syria who were martyred in around 287 AD. Sometimes depicted as the patron saint of apothecaries, they were often represented in popular artworks of the 17th and 18th centuries.
