Epidemic deaths. 16th-century artwork showing Death (skeletal figures) striking during an epidemic. Demons are also shown, waiting to seize the victims despite prayers being made. This artwork is from a 1503 French translation of the work 'De remediis utriusque fortunae' (Remedies for Fortune Fair and Foul) by the Italian scholar and poet Petrarch (1304-1374). This artwork is from a copy of that work held at the Bibliotheque nationale de France (BnF).
