A rare British broadsheet entitled insThe antidiluvian world', with contemporary hand colouring, drawn and engraved by John Emslie and published by James Reynolds in 1849. It shows reconstructions of extinct creatures in their established epocs prior to the creation of man. The images from the lias apparently owe much to Thomas Hawkins and John Martin's dragon like reconstructions of the previous decade. The iguanodon (noted as 70 feet long) and pterodactyle are particularly dragon-like. Full sheet image also available in this collection. Print in collection of photographer.
