Red palm weevil. Female red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) on a branch. Many weevils are damaging to crops and are often found in dry foods including nuts, seeds, cereals and other grain products. The weevil excavates holes up to a metre long in palm tress and is considered a major pest of palm plantations.
