Digger wasp with prey. Digger wasp (Sphex nigripes) carrying a paralysed bush cricket (katydid, family Tettigoniidae) back to its burrow. Digger wasps are solitary insects that dig their nests in the ground. They sting and paralyse their prey, which they then drag to the nest and feed to their hatching larvae.
