Newton's birthplace, Woolsthorpe Manor, Lincolnshire, England. This house was the birthplace and home for many years of the English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton (1642-1727). Newton retreated from Cambridge to this isolated country manor in 1665 during the Great Plague. It was here that he worked for the next two years on his theories of calculus and gravitation, amongst others. He returned to Cambridge in 1667.
