Montmorillonite. Dried samples of montmorillonite. This group of phyllosilicate minerals typically form in microscopic crystals, forming a clay. Montmorillonite is used on a large scale in the viscosity regulation of muds found during oil-well drilling, but also in conditioning of soils, dams and levees.
