Pteranodon (Pteranodon longiceps), artwork. Pteranodon lived during the Late Cretaceous, 88-80 million years ago. It had a wingspan of up to nine metres and the head had a large crest which is thought to have been used as a sexual display. It is shown here on the ground using its wings as a pair of front legs. It is thought that pterosaurs used all four limbs when on the ground and were able to walk, run, hop and lift off into the air.
