Muscovite mineral sample. This is a phyllosilicate mineral with a very complex chemical formula that includes aluminium and potassium, along with a range of silicates, hydroxides and fluorides. Here, it has formed leaf-like crystals, but is more commonly found as small inclusions that give a sparkle to rocks such as granite and gneiss. This sample is 7 centimetres across.
