Treatment of injury of the achilles tendon. 18th century illustrations mainly concerned with treatment of a ruptured achilles tendon. Figures 1 to 9 detail the design for a slipper which immobilises the heel and supports the foot relative to the lower calf. The foot is pointed downward to allow the ends of the ruptured tendon to be opposed. The boot was to be worn during the day for up to five months. Figure 10 (top of the page) is an illustration of a pulka, a reindeer-pulled sleigh used in Lapland. This page comes from an issue of the Gentleman's Magazine from 1754.
