Hesperonychus elizabethae dinosaurs, artwork. These small predatory dinosaurs (foreground) are being approached by the much larger theropod dinosaur Gorgosaurus libratus (centre left). H. elizabethae was described in 2009, and is the smallest known carnivorous non-avian dinosaur in North America. This scene is a shallow lake in Alberta, Canada, dating from the Campanian in the Late Cretaceous (75 million years ago).
